What was in the cup?

  • I have for some time now had the question what was in the cup that Jesus was praying about to the Father.

Matthew 26:39

And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

John 1:1

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

  • Could it have been the fear of death? I think not. Because Jesus knew the Father before time was. And if you will continue to read John you will see that the Word is Jesus. So in knowing this then Jesus knew what Heaven was like and what awaited him there.

Mat 16:21

From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.

Mat 17:22

And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men:

Mat 17:23

And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry.

  • He also knew that he was going to die and rise again on the third day. He knew he would suffer a lot in the flesh.

Mat 27:46

And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

Mat 27:47

Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.

Mat 27:48

And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.

Mat 27:49

The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.

Mat 27:50

Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.

  • Now for as long as Jesus was, he knew that the Father Hated SIN and could not look upon it. He also knew that SIN could not exists in the presents of GOD THE FATHER. The LOVE between Jesus and God was and is a great thing more than any mortal man can and ever will comprehend. So Jesus knowing what he might be giving up and what he had to take on himself ( THE SINS OF MAN). Remember that he was as a man and had all our trials but to a greater degree. BY FAITH HE WENT FORWARD!
  • During all of his existence him and the father were one and the father was always with him. But when the SINS OF MAN were TAKEN on him then GOD had to turn from him and this hurt JESUS far greater than we can know as mortals. And that is why Jesus cried out to the Father. But when he died his pure Sin free blood enveloped all that sin and God once more could look upon him. So this thing Jesus done for us was and is the greatest sacrifice known to man. Not only did he die for us but put up his place in haven for us. By Faith in God was he able to do all the father ask of him. His love for us and the father carried him through the ordeal.

2Ti 2:15

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

  • Now can we do any less? He Jesus ask us to Study to show ourselves approved of GOD.
  • Love one another
  • Love our neighbors.
